So I was talking with a buddy of mine this morning, and we were talking about a few games that happened in the NFL and NBA. The one game in the NFL was the Monday Night Football game between the New England Patriots and my Baltimore Ravens.
I was pretty pissed after seeing the Ravens scores throughout the night on my Blackberry, even up to the last couple minutes of the game. Then I saw the highlights and was even more pissed that they lost the way they did - let's just put it this way, Baltimore lost, New England didn't win.
The one thing I get annoyed about is whenever B-more loses, Billick always stands up and accuses the refs of bad calls; this one time, I have to agree with him (on some points). I don't think the refs were told by the league to let the Pats win - that's just ridiculous; but I do know there were some pretty petty calls and some really bad calls on those last couple drives. The one where Rex Ryan called the time-out - I don't know, that's a hard one to overturn; in those pressure situations, you have to rely on your ears to hear someone call time-out. It sucks that the call was made, cause the Ravens stopped the Pats, and they would have won the game.
Oh well - if Bart Scott wouldn't have lost his temper, there wouldn't have been a second unsportsman-like penalty on him. And, I'm sorry, but Jabar Gaffney did not have full possession of the ball when he went out of bounds on the touchdown; his feet were clearly down, but he was still bobbling the ball making sure to tuck it. That's what sucks. But it's over and there's really nothing anyone can do about it now.
However, we're now subject to Samari Rolle talking about how the ref called him 'boy' on the field. I know it's pride out there, and I'm not discounting any kind of derogatory term from anyone, but I just get tired of hearing complaints from the Ravens when they lose. It's like that one person you know, who complains about everything - even if it's good. And again, if the guy really did call him a 'boy' he should be suspended and docked pay; but why drag it into the media and make it the focal point of why you lost the game. Take it up privately to the league office and make your statement there. That one incident is not why the Ravens lost on Monday night, it's a combination of things - namely 13 penalties for over 100 yards, and a complete lack of offense.
Now, don't get me started on the offense; one game isn't going to change my opinion on how awful that side of the ball is. Sure, Willis McGahee ran all over the place, but that's because they finally gave him the damn ball; look throughout the season at how many times he carried - less than 20 times in a lot of games. I'm sorry, Kyle Boller is not that good of a QB, and Steve McNair is not even close to the 'Air McNair' figure head he was back in Tennessee. Plain and simple, the Ravens are not a good team this year; they may show glimpses of hope every so often, but they have to do something to change it up and revamp that offense or they'll soon turn into the laughing stock of the NFL.
I guess I'm more upset than I let on about the Ravens - that game really took a lot out of me. But, it was also last night's Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs game that also made me a little upset. See Michael is a huge Spurs fan; I'm a pretty big Mavericks fan. We talk about that match-up all the time.
So onto the Mavs/Spurs - freakin' Dirk - 15 points and only 9 rebounds???? What kind of bull is that! There was no true big man in the middle stopping him, and he still could only manage 9 rebounds. And I've got to give it up to Manu Ginobili - sick and hurt, and he powered through to score 37 points; that's not bad on a day where he's 100%! I'll chalk it up to a bad game design by Avery Johnson; and speaking of Avery Johnson, do you ever get the feeling that he's not the real coach? My thoughts are Mark Cuban is secretly feeding him plays in a tiny ear piece. I guess we'll all find out when the NBA decides to put microphones on all the coaches - now what a stupidly insane thing to do! I could probably go on all day about that one.
